Especie naturalizada cuyos frutos se pueden comer frescos, pero se suelen utilizar para confeccionar bebidas. El tamarindo también se usa comúnmente para hacer dulces, conservas, y para dar sabor a postres y comidas. Puede crecer hasta 40 pies. Es de crecimiento lento y su copa es en forma de sombrilla, por lo que se recomienda para sombra y requiere espacios amplios para crecer bien.
