Árbol introducido cuya fruta comestible y redonda de color verde pálido o amarillo se utiliza para la elaboración de jugos, jaleas, helados y conservas. Su cáscara, hojas, corteza y raíces se utilizan en remedios medicinales. Puede crecer hasta 30 pies. Su crecimiento es moderado y su copa es redonda. Tolera ambientes secos y húmedos, así como espacios de escasos nutrientes.
